Most of the time in the NFL world, it’s not about how you look, it’s about how you play. For the Ravens, yesterday was a notable exception.

Yesterday, The Castle hosted the team’s Media Day, where the ever-talented media and graphics folks from Baltimore’s staff put together so many of the cool graphics that you’ll see throughout the year. Some of those still shots end up being the ones on the game programs each week, while the video segments will be used for hype videos, player introductions and so on. The Ravens gave us a behind-the-scenes look at Derrick Henry’s photo shoot, and it’s safe to say he liked what he saw.

If this season goes the way a lot of us think it will, I’d imagine you’ll be seeing The King’s video clips early and often. You’re probably going to see quite a few appearances from Lamar Jackson and Justin Madubuike as well, but for a brief moment, it looked like we were going to have some Broadway-style stand-ins for each of them.

Evidently they were stunt doubles? Whatever that was all about, the real LJ8 did make his appearance, sporting a bit of bling.

We’ll get to see everyone, the REAL versions of everyone, back in the mix today, as Mandatory Minicamp begins and runs through Thursday. The next few days will give us a good idea of who’s healthy, given that they could sit out of OTAs regardless of their status, but we’ll also get a look at some real competition in position battles.

Yours truly will be in attendance today alongside our guy Nikhil Mehta, who will be there for the duration. Among the things we’ll be keeping our eyes on will be the continued development of the rookies…

…but also, how the newcomers look as they battle against the vets. Having full team participation is going to give us a much better idea of how the coaches view the personnel units, and who might have some work to do to earn their way into the starting groups.

Whoever suits up on the starting 22, they’ll enter this year knowing that they’ll be facing off against a familiar foe for the foreseeable future.

I respect Mike Tomlin, and with his profile of success, he’s done more than enough to earn that extension. That said, here’s hoping we make the next few years feel long and difficult. Good preparation in these offseason workouts is the first step in putting the smackdown on Pittsburgh and the rest, and we’ll let you know what that prep looks like this week!
